Looks like Micro$oft is interested in making a new Train Simulator for it's Vista operating system. It sounds like this one is likely to be multi-player as well!

We can hope, though It'll also require a pricey update to Vista.

It's a pity, since I think I'm going to have to downgrade from XP to 2000....there's no way my computer would be able to make Vista. XP is already destroying it!

So will it not work on XP - at all?

The current Train Simulator is designed for XP. If they come out with a new one, it will probably be for Vista. They won't make it backwards compatible...they want to give you another reason to upgrade to Vista ;)

Looks like I will have to start putting my "pennies" away.
Perhaps I should wait before including add-ons etc on my just purchased MSTS (the older version 2001).
The joys of learning and the added benefits of "paracetamol" - for those like me still on the first step of the ladder!!!

Sounds like an excellent reason to get Trainz instead. I haven't met a Vista system I liked yet...

I'm probably going to build a new machine this spring (my current system is now over a year old...time to sell it  ), and I was considering Vista, but I've heard so many cons I'm not sure it's worth it. XP Pro x64 sounds like a better idea right now (darn 32-bit OS limits you to 3GB of memory...wish I would've known that before  ).

3GB *might* be enough for Vista to start performing well in. It still won't look good though.

Well, considering the standard 32-bit Vista, for all practical purposes, only supports 3GB, it better work! Yes, it will technically support 4GB, but good luck actually utilizing it. That's why I was shooting for Ultimate 64-bit, but I think I may just stick to XP x64 instead. I just know I'm not a fan of the 3GB ceiling in place on my current system. I wasn't even aware of it until I built my dad's machine...waste of 1GB's worth of $$$.
