Ok, now that the voting is over.. On the derailment picture, why is the semi-trailer tractor in the air? Was the train positioned and then the board banged until the trains started falling, making the truck jump?

It looks like the truck got hit by the trailer by it. I would guess that the shot came out of a movie file....??? We may never know as Greg is not a member now. We may have been attacked by a "Hit and Run" poster.  :D

Well that is a bummer, I was going to ask about the distortions in the sky under the yellow hopper and the along the center of the closest support structure. I would really like to know how this was done.

huh.. I just assumed that pic was Photoshopped. It's not exactly something most people would do to their rolling stock.

huh.. I just assumed that pic was Photoshopped. But then it would be a digitally painted "picture" rather than "photo" wouldn't it.

No, the proper term is "Digitally Enhanced Photo". As opposed to manually enhanced photos that have been around for over 100 years. :D
The reason I assume it is a shot of an accident filmed with a movie camera is that someone had asked earlier if a frame from a movie would count. I would guess that it would as a frame from a movie is a photo. The sky has most likely been "enhanced" as you can see where he "cut and pasted" the background. I have done that on several photos for covers on CDs for customers. Last year I had to remove the electric, telephone, and cable wires from a photo of a local church for one customer. It is time consuming, but not terribly hard to do. You can also see that the sky repeats over in the left hand upper corner. If you have photoshop or a similar program, download the photo to your desktop and blow it up to about 200% and you should be able to see what was done to the photo. Greg did a very nice job creating the scene. That is why I voted for his rather than my own.

I agree, photos of modeling skill are more to my personal liking than displays of computer prowess, but I voted for the photo because it has such originality and fit the topic so very well. It is a very interesting pic even though we all know it wasn't exactly taken during an operating session...;)
Congrats to Greg on his win!

As opposed to manually enhanced photos that have been around for over 100 years. :D Which is why when we used to run photo contests in the "film" days, we always asked for the negative as well as the print. That way we could (often) tell if it was a real photo or a dark room shenanigan. Very clever people would try to fake negatives also, but that was much harder (esp. with 35mm) to do well and usually not worth the effort.
