I think it's great that UP's going through all the trouble, and expense to do these heritage units! I wish BNSF would follow with a GN, NP, ATSF, and BN units.

Silver trucks & fuel tank!? Are they painting it like their passenger F units?

It appears that way. It doesn't hurt my feelings in any way though. I just hope there's a large, black flying herald under that canvas... Yellow, silver and a black herald would = AWESOME!

It's a shame the borg had to swallow up these charming railroads in the first place in order to quench its endless corporate greed and quest for monopoly.
Same goes for Beansniff, CSXsux, and Nazi Southern.

That being said, I can't wait to see the Rio Grande heritage unit.

As I've seen posted elsewhere, and looking at the past 3 hertitage units, they were all in variations of the member RR's Passenger paint schemes, in a sort of way, so I can see there being a BIG yellow, silver, black & orange Unit under there with an older logo... Most likely.

So who dislikes Tower 55 NOW?

Seems they let the ACe outta the bag, err tarp, early!

I love it, AWSOME, Can't wait to get Grandeman's reply... I think I may order one from Tower 55, I want something from the heritage line, either that or the SP one (if it looks good).

BNSF considers their current scheme "heritage". Of what I don't know....

Actually H1 & H2 WERE... H3 is a fan coined term, BNSF calls it "NEW IMAGE", as the, new image of the RR...

And if you look at H1 & H2 they had ATSF inspired locos, GN, colors... um... maybe the Black in the newimage is inspired by BN?

Are they doing a Southern paint scheme?? I sure hope so.:)

Well, since Southern is one road UP didn't swallow, I doubt it. Unless NS does a heritage unit. (doubt it)

Fortunately, or unfortunately, there already is (was?) a Southern painted heritage unit. I think it was done as part of operation Lifesaver.

I personally don't like it as 1. Its a LOW hooded diesel, and 2. Its a LOW hooded diesel. 3. Painted in the "OLD" southern scheme of green with a stripe and not in the tuxedo colors, which to me is classic Southern.

I think they could have done better with one of the many high hoods left on the system which are pure Southern.

Carey.I'll gladly give an AMEN to that. To see one of those new diesels in Southern paint with a low nose, just don't look right. Also,I hope they don't try it in L&N colors, unless it's the Yellow&Grey scheme, other wise no.William.

Perhaps they wanted to pick a unit they figured would be running the longest on the railroad?

GandyDancer

The unit should be in Byers Canyon about now. I hope someone was able to get over there and get some shots.

Talking to the engineers, there isn't much chance of it being a lead unit. They really don't like the "cockpit" design of the engineers position.

Nice Rio Grande unit! But hey that Southern loco looks mighty fine as well!

Yes Josh the workers for BNSF help create the paint schemes. So it is inspired by BN.

The normal assignment for the D&RGW heritage unit is running between Denver & Pueblo, but it runs between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. I've caught it in Colorado Springs several times - always at night. Well after 6 months of chasing it around I finally caught it outside the yards and in the sun light! It was assigned to the ski train a couple weeks ago. Here she is approaching the 2.5% grade headed toward tunnel #1 just past the Coal Creek (Highway 72) bridge.

Now that's an appropriate duty for that engine! And it's paint job does blend well with the F40PH's.
