Hi everyone,
Feel free to take part in this poll.
If you select "other", feel free to tell me the roadname. By commuter line I mean, Metrolink, Metra, Metro North etc.
Thanks,
Chris Moore :D

I'd like to model the local shortline(s), NSHR, and the connecting NS and CPR lines. :)

You must be modeling the current era, I don't see any fallen flags...
Mark me up for the Pennsy.

I picked Other. That's an odd selection to choose from, No Canadian roads :(
Anyway, I model CP and some CSX as well as the ETR, a short line in my home town.

My F&CGR is so completely imaginary and fictional as to be an insult to any established road name. But if I ever get into the big stuff, it will be SP.

Thanks Everyone,
You see down here in Arizona there are no shortlines  Flagstaff is probably the biggest railroad town(and Flagstaff isn't very big). BNSF usually runs threw Flagstaff alot, along with the Union Pacific and occasionally Amtrak. Also there's a small town called Kingman, but there's not to much railroad activity. As for the fallen flags, I do model them. If you look it up on the internet, I found out, the Union Pacific owns the Southern Pacific, so I guess you could say there a fallen flag line. I also love looking at fallen flag lines from Illinois and New York(because my parents are from there). Also I'm planning on modeling a fallen flag model railroad (not sure what roadname to use) but i'll keep you updated.
Thanks again,
Chris Moore

You see down here in Arizona there are no shortlines Hi Chris, that's the way it used to be here until CN divested itself of all short hauls, although CB&CNS is 240 miles from terminus to exchange. It became marginaly profitable when the CN transport trucks were in competition with it. Life's like that

Thanks Everyone,
You see down here in Arizona there are no shortlines
Actually, there is the Arizona and California Railroad (http://algomacentral.railfan.net/AZCal.htm). I'm not sure where Parker, AZ is in relation to you, so I'm not sure you ever would have seen any of their equipment, except maybe on a DHL commercial.
As for me, I model a number of railroads, including:
Norfolk Southern (and predecessors Southern and Norfolk & Western)
Burlington Northern
Santa Fe (but not BNSF)
Missouri Pacific
Missouri-Kansas-Texas
Cotton Belt
Who ever said you have to pick just one? :D :p :o

I see that other is dar and away the most popular. :-)
Doing it over, the New York Central. In fact, I am moving my railroad back in time to be able to run more NYC and PC cars.
Definately "other".Other being my own Grande Valley Railroad and her younger siblings the Muskegon Coopersville & Marne and the Kent County Connecting. :D

I'm another Other. <g>
My home road is the Greentop & Oberon RY. A fictional amalgammation of Adirondack Mountain railroads with connections to Delaware & Hudson and the New York Central.
Currently I have 1 D&H loco and 2 cabeese, 3 NYC locos with 1 caboose. 20% of my rolling stock is D&H [and growing]. GT&O has no locos yet and 1 caboose in the shops.

Well, I voted "other" though I currently have UP and Santa Fe on my layout. I have moved the era from the 60s to "more modern" (I like covered hoppers & grain elevators). There is also the temptation to do a freelanced road. Allen McClelland of the Virginian and Ohio is my modeling hero, but I would have to place a free lance road furher west than the V&O.

I voted "other" and model mostly in Rio Grande though I also have UP and Santa Fe on my layout. The era of the layout is late 50s to the early 60s but I have a bunch of "modern" and “vintage” equipment that I like to run as well. Depends on the mood and what the nephews want to run. I’ve even got a dual gage narrow/standard line that runs through town. This way I can run my trolley or a Colorado & Southern steam locomotive with a few passenger cars behind it.

Other. I model the Cowlitz, Chehalis, and Cascade railway as it should exist in the present day. I t was abandoned in 1955. You could also say I model a little of BNSF, as I will have about 2-3 feet of interchange track with them and some leased power :D.

Well, as you can probably tell by my avatar, I voted "Other" since I'm modeling the Rio Grande in the 1940's. Of course, my Rio Grande happens to be laid in California's Sierra Nevadas (Yuba River Sub), so that gives me a chance to give trackage rights to SP, WP and--believe it or not--GN. I've also 'borrowed' locomotives from the Colorado & Southern, Pennsy, N&W and C&O, but since it's set in WWII, that was a pretty common occurence with western railroads as the traffic got thicker and the motive power got stretched. But there's just something about Rio Grande standard gauge steam that gets my blood going.

I'm the third D&H fan here! The Bridge Line Rules!
I model the 70's to early 80's era, just prior to the Guilford takeover (eech!). Mohawk Yard (Albany,NY) to Rouses Point, NY (just south of the Canadian border).
I also interchange with the Vermont Railway (VTR)

I believe the "Big O RR has the majority..."Other" of course.
My home roadname, Blue Creek & Warrior RW manages the yards and switching/ maintenance duties, while Southern, GM&O, and L&N handle freight and passenger service. Norfolk & Western has a coal run from the mines "in dim thar hills" to the Coke plant. I do have a Union Pacific Challenger that made a wrong turn somewhere and ended up pulling "through" freight in Southern Appalachia.:D

I have a bunch of Norfolk & Western rolling stock so I guess I model that road name, I'm in the middle of making money buying and selling houses so my layout is temporary.
I must do more research into N&W and find a section of RR to model when the right place comes along I'll be ready to build.

I was wondering if anyone actually modeled the BN/BNSF - you see a lot of locomotives and rolling stock in their paint jobs, but it's pretty rare to see an actual layout that is centered on it. I suppose there will be more now as the ATSF modelers decide whether to switch or not.
Most BN/BNSF stuff I see on layouts is either interchange or "pool power."
bnshelbysub
10-13-2005, 03:27 PM
Jeff,
Does a fictitious BN sub-division count? BN locomotives will be the only motive power on the late '80's - early '90's Shelby sub-division that I am currently planning.

I see that it took 'til page four for Southern RY to make the cut, but
here's another vote for them.
I model the Southern with a little C&O and N&W thrown in. On some days
though, you might see some power from AT&SF and NYC roll through!
In fact, NYC actually runs a regular passenger train along these rails...
gotta love those Hudsons! Good luck, Dave

I have mostly UP models, but also include several of the fallen flags, so I checked "other." Besides UP, I have D&RGW, CB&Q and MP, and intend to add a few of the other western railroads in the future, such as SP, ATSF, CNW, GN, NP and WP (or at least a couple of them). My layout is not a specific prototype, but is rather generic and portrays somewhere in the western United States. There is a lot to like about each of these railroads, so it's hard to pick a favorite.

;) Other is what I have to vote.
Railroading is just fun for me and I have elements of several roads I want on my freelance railroad. Mostly following the Southern scheme, so the name, "Southern Eclectic Xpress" keeps coming back to me.

Well I see I am with the majority on this by choosing "Other". The Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western RR is a figment type railway. That is: It is completely based on a figment of my imagination. Some of the places are real, but the names have been changed to protect the guilty........ Or something like that. It is based in the Finger Lakes region of New York the first week of August in the year 1925. Since I like Steam, particularly older steam, the period right after the USRA seemed like a likely time period for the layout. There is quite a bit of local history hidden in places......... (just for fun!)
