Hey guys,

OK, question for you.

I am painting a KATO SD70MAC in custom roadname colors, and I have been looking through the Microscale catalog (both online and in my hobby shop) exhaustively trying to find decals for the following:

1. The warning emblems, electrical compartment labels, and all of that other technical mumbo jumbo that is to be found on any unit. What's interesting is that the decal sets for existing roadnames, such as the decal set for a Southern Pacific SD70M, only has the railroad logos, speed lettering and very little else. None of that technical data and fine print applied to various parts of the locomotive.

I DID find that information on the decal sheet for a CN SD70I... why does Microscale provide this information on the CN SD70I set when it leaves it absent on virtually all of the other roadnames?

2. Looking for a decal sheet that can provide me a black anti-glare panel for the top of the nose of a SD70MAC. Yes, I suppose I could paint it, but I'm too lazy and I feel a printed decal for this would be more precise and easier to apply. I am willing to buy a decal sheet for a road I don't model just so I can get this anti-glare panel.

(I already have a CN SD70I sheet for the technical data, what's one more road I don't model?)

Can anyone provide any insight into these questions and why Microscale seems to leave so much vital information off of decal sheets?

Well I don't have an answer for you right now, but maybe, just maybe a friend of mine might know. I noticed in one of his pictures there was a decal sheet on the work bench that had the fire extinguisher decals on it. I'll ask him, it may take awhile as our contact is by email, he lives about 2500 miles from me.

1. Try the following:

MC-4161 Diesel - EMD SD70 Series HO Scale Minical Decal Sheet
87-527 Diesel - EMD HO Scale Decal Sheet (half contains EMD data, the other half is GE data)

2. You'll have to buy a whole decal set just to get two anti-glare panels, but I'd use the Conrail SD80MAC set for a black anti-glare panel

Micro scale has been getting better with the extra data on their sheets now. The Newest CP Beaver set and the YN3 CSX sets have lots of extra data.
I find no one set has everything, so I take bits from lots of sets. Here is a list of some of the sets I use, they may help.

87-527 GE and EMD Data
MC-4056 Diesel Builder's Plates (EMD and GE)
MC-4161 EMD 70 Series Data
MC-4221 EMD SD80MAC / SD90MAC Data
MC-4162 CSX Loco Data

As for anti-glare panels try 87-440 (blue and black panels) from MicroScale
they also have Green and Grey (87-431), Blue and Maroon (87-449) and Red and Orange (87-451)

Hope that helps. And remember to post a pic of the unit when its done. Its always nice to see free-lance paint schemes.

I happened to spot these while browsing eBay...don't know if they would work or not.
